Koh Kong is Cambodia’s hidden gem for eco-tourism and adventure. Bordering Thailand and nestled between the rugged Cardamom Mountains and the Gulf of Thailand, this province offers a raw, untouched beauty that is perfect for nature lovers and travelers seeking a quiet escape from the crowds.
🗺️ Geography
Koh Kong is located in southwestern Cambodia. Its landscape is defined by the Cardamom Mountains—the largest rainforest in Southeast Asia—and an extensive network of pristine rivers, estuaries, and mangrove forests. The provincial capital, Krong Koh Kong, sits along the Koh Pao River, just 10km from the Thai border at Cham Yeam.
🌤️ Climate
The province experiences a tropical monsoon climate, which keeps the jungles lush and green:
- Cool Season (Nov – Feb): The best time to visit, with comfortable temperatures (17°C–27°C) and dry weather for trekking.
- Hot Season (Mar – May): Hot and humid (up to 38°C), ideal for swimming in waterfalls or river kayaking.
- Rainy Season (Jun – Oct): High rainfall makes the waterfalls spectacular, though some jungle trails may be challenging.
